New York Fashion Week FW25: This Season’s Standout Moments

As the lights dimmed and the music pulsed through the city of New York, Fall/Winter 2025 collections started to unfold with a fresh mix of innovation, creativity, a construct in maximalism and restraint. In February the streets of New York were filled with models, influencers, talented designers and the general fashionistas hoping to get a glimpse of the spotlight.

This year was filled with some major comebacks from Joseph Altuzarra, Norma Kamali on the schedule for the first time in over a decade as well as the return of Christopher John Rogers.

One of the biggest headlines was to see the first collection debut from Veronica Leoni, Calvin Klein’s new creative director. She is the first female director for CK, showing her tailoring skills to the highest limit with oversized trenches, formfitting dresses and front panel shirts playing with texture and movement. Kendall Jenner as a front runner for the show with icons such as Selena forest and Binx Walton hitting the runway.

Here are some key trends to take away from New York Fashion Week.

A New Take on Power Dressing

Sharp tailoring made a triumphant return, but with a more relaxed undone energy and an 80s element. Designers such as Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera debuted this well. It’s all about the confidence to pull off oversized big shoulder silhouettes.

Statement Outerwear & The Art of Layering

In the winter season’s the demand for practical layering and outerwear has increased. Designers accepted the challenge to create these looks for F/W25 with Altuzarra showcasing sweeping wool capes with unexpected shearling linings, while Coach revived the oversized puffer with exaggerated hoods and cinched waists.

The return of Animal prints

The resurgence of animal prints, was bought back with designers like Khaite, Anna Sui and Frederick Anderson bringing elements of leopard print, zebra prints and animal motifs. Some designs paired with a mix of colours such as Anna Sui’s purple suits and some mixing fabrics, texture and accessories

Ornate Brooches: Vintage elegance reimagined

Brooches made a surprising comeback, pinned onto oversized coats, knits, and even hats. Carolina Herrera and Tory Burch incorporated ornate, vintage-inspired brooches, proving that accessories can elevate even the simplest of outfits.

Thom Browne returned to NYFW after a seasons break with an astonishing theatrical end involving 2000 origami birds. The shows narrative depicted caged love birds dreaming of freedom. The collection featured whimsical dresses, tailored pieces embellished with colour bird motifs with elements of heritage tweeds, checks and argyles.

New York Fashion Week FW25 showed incredible talent from renowned to new designers. It shows that fashion is an ever-evolving dialogue between the past and the future. As a stylist, I’m excited to incorporate these themes into upcoming shoots and client wardrobes, translating runway fantasy into everyday reality.
