How to create a Timeless Capsule Wardrobe.
The art behind your capsule wardrobe is that it takes time, especially as you grow into the person you want to be and find the style that resonates with you.
As for some of you, you may have already found your style which is great as you can start putting your wardrobe together today if you wanted. As for others it may take slightly longer as follow new trends or try out some crazy prints and colours. BUT, there is no right or wrong.
Just do it in your own time!
However that being said you need to start somewhere, so here are some steps to guide you.
STEP 1 - DEFINE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE
It’s okay if you don’t know what this is yet but it’s you chance to explore, look through Pinterest magazines, go to stores to try clothes on and get advice from friends. You will know when it feels right.
Here are few questions to ask yourself: What colours do you look best in? What Silhouettes flatter your body shape? Do you prefer classic, feminine, edgy or minimal styles?
STEP 2 - CHOOSE A NEUTRAL BASE PALETTE
Black, white, navy, grey and beige are great foundation colours. Add one or two accent colours eg. Burgundy, Olive green and blue
STEP 3 - ESSENTIAL WARDROBE STAPLES
My first tip is quality over quantity, it makes your look more stylish and your outfits are elevated. Choose well made, timeless pieces from brands known for craftsmanship
A mini essentials checklist from my personal suggestions:
A classic white T-shirt & Tank top
A blouse
High quality knitwear - great for colder seasons
Well fit jeans and tailored trousers
Classic Trench Coat
Structured Blazer
Little black dress - perfect date night dress or evening cocktail party
Versatile midi dress
White sneakers, ballet flats, ankle boots and neutral heels
Timeless Jewellery - Gold and Silver, elegant necklaces
Crossbody bag and a classic tote bag
Quality leather belt
TO CONCLUDE
A few final pointers before I sign this piece off, don’t forget to adapt your capsule for the seasons. It is suppose to be effortless style, sustainable and simple with a well curated collection making you feel confident in what you wear. Stick to a “one in” and “one out” rule consider getting rid of pieces you don’t wear often to allow opportunities for fresher pieces to add to your wardrobe. Finally don’t forget versatility, every piece should be able to mix and match seamlessly.
